Protecting the Shotgun Rider

Mostly I am alone in my vehicle.  While driving last evening, I was placed in a situation where I had to apply my brakes with more force than usual.  It's my natural reaction to restrain the contents of my passenger seat in order to prevent its toppling to the floor.

Once on my way again, the memory of my doing the exact same thing a few months earlier surfaced in my mind.  On that occasion, the contents of my passenger seat happened to be a 6’2” male.  My reaction to place my hand across the front of my, already seat-belted, passenger caused us to laugh at the thought that my small arm could prevent him from injury.  Following last night’s abrupt stop, I came to the conclusion that, as chivalrous as I may have appeared, my natural reaction was to save my usual side-seat passenger...my purse.
